Pharmacy Compounding Regulation

Overview

Pharmacy compounding policy is evolving rapidly at both the state and federal levels. Legislatures, boards of pharmacy, and federal regulators are advancing bills, updating standards, and increasing enforcement activity—often in response to high-profile safety concerns and emerging marketplace trends. At the same time, legitimate 503A and 503B compounders continue to provide critical patient care services within a complex and shifting regulatory landscape.

State pharmacy associations sit at the center of these discussions. You are called on to interpret new rules, respond to legislation, engage regulators, and clearly distinguish ethical compounding from unlawful or unsafe activity. That work requires timely information, practical tools, and a clear understanding of trends across all 50 states.

NASPA is committed to equipping state pharmacy associations with the insight and tools needed to promote patient safety, uphold regulatory integrity, and protect the reputation of responsible compounders. We will continue to update this page regularly and welcome input from states to ensure it reflects real-time developments and on-the-ground realities.
