2025 Provider Status Mid-Year Legislative Update

211 bills pertaining to pharmacist scope of practice and payment for pharmacist-provided patient care services have been introduced in 44 states so far in the 2025 legislative session. Several of the bills focused on addressing public health concerns, including vaccination authority, test and treat services, and expanding the role of pharmacy technicians.
As of June 2025, 16 bills in 12 states have passed their respective legislatures and been signed into law. Below are highlights of laws that have been enacted.
While these legislative victories represent significant progress in expanding pharmacist scope of practice and securing payment for pharmacist-provided services, it’s important to recognize that this is only a fraction of the legislative work undertaken by state pharmacy associations. Beyond payment and scope, state pharmacy associations engage in a wide range of advocacy efforts to advance the profession and improve patient care. These efforts include tackling issues such as drug pricing transparency, patient access to medications, regulatory compliance, and broader public health initiatives. The work of state pharmacy associations is multifaceted, encompassing a comprehensive approach to enhancing pharmacy practice at all levels.
