Surescripts recently released its 2018 National Progress Report and concluded that “interoperability is occurring at scale and driving measurable improvements in healthcare quality and cost for patients and providers,” according to their press release. Notable findings from the report include:
- Processed 17.7 billion secure data transactions in 2018 — a 29% increase from 2017
- Added 8 million unique patients to its master patient index, bringing their total to 258 million patients (close to 80% of the US population and 93% of all insured patients)
- 106,000 clinicians used their Record Locator & Exchange in 2018, a 586% increase from 2017
- Processed 40.5 billion real-time benefit checks at the point of care
“Together, we’re transforming interactions between patients and the people who care for them by improving prescription price transparency, enabling clinical information exchange, combating the opioid epidemic and improving prescription accuracy”said Surescripts CEO Tom Skelton.
