CDC Reports Mild Flu Season So Far

According to the CDC’s latest Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, this year’s flu season has been low-severity.  Outpatient and hospital visits for flu-like illnesses have been low, and fewer deaths have been attributed to influenza and pneumonia.

The report also finds that the flu vaccine reduced the risk of illness by 47% this year, and up to 60% in children.

Reminder: It’s not too late to get your flu shot — flu season is expected to continue for several more weeks: The CDC current recommendations advise annual influenza vaccination for everyone older than 6 months, who does not have a medical condition that would prohibit them from vaccination.
