Cigna Begins $67 Billion Aquisition of Express Scripts

Cigna submitted a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) this month to complete the acquisition of Express Scripts, a pharmacy benefit manager.  According to both organization, the $67 billion acquisition will expand customer value and create solutions to healthcare affordability and consumer choice.

“This combination accelerates Cigna’s enterprise mission of improving the health, well-being and sense of security of those we serve, and in turn, expanding the breadth of services for our customers, partners, clients, health plans and communities,” Cigna President and CEO David M. Cordani said in a press release.

This filing also includes terms in the instance of either party terminating the merger, or the Department of Justice striking down the merger over anti-competitive concerns.
