The National Community Pharmacists Association is seeking a Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Director of the Advocacy Center. This individual will represent the interests of community pharmacists before Congress, the Administration, federal agencies and state legislatures. Valued position attributes include legislative and regulatory strategist; demonstrated lobbying effectiveness; successful development and implementation of state legislative and regulatory strategy, and a proven track record for leading an effective advocacy team.
Responsibilities include leading federal and state legislative and regulatory organizational priorities; anticipating, analyzing, and tracking legislation potentially impacting community pharmacists and their ability to serve patients; lobbying Congress and federal regulatory agencies; leading and collaborating with Advocacy team members; and representing the advocacy team at internal meetings. Management of Advocacy Center budget and eagerness to interact with organization members are important attributes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a variety of audiences is an important characteristic including the ability to develop and make presentations at conferences, meetings and public policy forums.
Ideal candidate will be a registered lobbyist and have at least 10 years of congressional staff or congressional relations experience in healthcare issues, an emphasis on Medicare and Medicaid programs is a plus; Capitol Hill and Administration contacts important. The position requires a proven track record as an advocate, demonstrated legislative and regulatory accomplishment; successful management experience, knowledge of Congress, federal agencies and the legislative regulatory process; experience managing state legislative and regulatory priorities; excellent written and verbal communications skills; personal and political skills; and analytical abilities.
