State Associations Express Support for DIR Fee Reform

NASPA, and many of the state pharmacy associations, the National Community Pharmacists Association, and other stakeholders have submitted a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding the proposed Medicare Part D changes.  Specifically, the letter supports the rule requirement that pharmacy direct and indirect renumeration (DIR) fees be assessed at point of sale, rather than after the fact.

“Given the overall patient savings predicted by CMS and the enhanced transparency created by these provisions, we believe that CMS acted prudently by considering them in the proposed rule. We urge CMS to act swiftly in adopting a requirement to account for all pharmacy DIR at point-of-sale,” states the letter.
